Introducing
Yves Lanthier

                         Digitizing the artistic vision

from a blank piece of paper or a blank computer screen.

Over the years, I have developed many different techniques, using all kinds of traditional media. I strive to maintain the same qualities in the paintings I am now realizing with CorelDRAW on my computer.

View on the Bay

This painting was inspired by the beautiful places I've seen during my travels in Europe, and the starting point for its creation was one of my travel photos.

IN THIS SESSION, I will share two pieces with you: View on the Bay, a monthly winner in the 1998 Corel World Design Contest; and The Gardens Scene, chosen by Corel the year before as Entrant's Showcase, and published in the latest edition of Art & Artistry, Corel's four-color book that showcases the work of Corel-using artists. You'll see what inspired me, some of the techniques I used, and the challenges I faced in realiz- ing my vision.

There are many ways for a traditional artist to paint a subject based on a photograph, including sketching from the photograph or using a projector to transfer the image.   Some artists  even keep the  photograph projected while they paint matching colors  onto the canvas. For this  piece, I followed a similar plan. After selecting and scanning one of my travel pictures:

When I do not have pictures. I sketch a subject directly on paper. Other times, I create a new object over what I want to sketch. In this case, I began with a photograph.
